35 year old Cruiserweight Shawndell Winters (8-0, 7 KOs), of Harvey, IL, is only just beginning his career, having made his debut in May of 2015. But he is determined for greatness.
On Saturday, at Hitz Boxing’s Fight Night at the Horseshoe in Hammond, IN, Winters made a major statement that he is the #NextGenChamp by picking apart and obliterating Ghana’s Maxwell Amponsah (11-2, 10 KOs).
Winters spent his days of training camp running at 4am with 3 workouts throughout the day at multiple gyms for this matchup, with an opponent with little know info on. His weight, at one point, dropped to 171 lbs. Some say he was over-training.
On Saturday evening, Winters felt out the visiting opponent for the 1st three rounds before Winters went on the assault. The hammers started pounding on Amponsah early and often in the 4th Round and into the 5th. A hard right to the chin staggered Amponsah before Winters unleashed “Winter Blizzard” that left his opponent face down on the canvas. The bout was immediately waved off, for medical attention, at 2:25 of the 5th Round and the Venue went nuts.
