In the main event on the Hitz boxing card at the Hammond Casino, the 17-0 “Bad Boy” Ed Brown faced Gilbert Venegas. The crowd was a heavy Brown crowd with cell phones turning into cameras and snapping away as the fighters were announced. Brown came out relaxed looking for an opening as both fighters were feeling one another out. Brown struck first with a nice overhand right and followed it up with some body-head combinations. Venegas through in a few shots but nothing of note landed as Brown continued his trend clearly taking the first round.
The second round saw the pace pick up as Brown looked to be more active and throwing some nice 1,2 punches. The best punches thrown and landed by Brown were upper cuts thrown from inside and out. Each one that landed snapped back Venegas neck as he tried himself unsuccessfully to land to the body. A late shot after the bell thrown by Venegas sparked an uproar from the crowd. He tried to touch gloves with Brown as a symbols of remorse, but Brown would have none of it.
The third round saw Brown throwing nice shots from range using his height and reach advantage until he could get inside and work the body from up close. It was clear that his opponent was starting to wilt under the constant shots coming from every angle. The uppercut was still the best shot being thrown.

The fourth round we saw much of the same. Brown throwing to Venegas’ head, and Venegas’ head launching back. The round ended with a nice flurry from both fighters with Brown still getting the best and remaining in control of the action.

The fifth round was progressively worse for Gilbert as he continued to feast on an array of punches. The only positive he could take out of it was that he didn’t go down. If that is positive. A couple of punches looked like they altered the entire direction of his brain as his head went one way and his body the other.

The final round started where the previous five had left off. It was just a repeat of Brown displaying his superior skills. The ending showed both fighters slugging it away and giving the fans what they wanted to see. They fought it out violently until the final bell. Brown showed why he is the highly touted prospect. With the unanimous dec. victory, Brown moved to 18-0. Big things are sure to happen soon for the “Bad Boy”!
