Everyday that I come into Sam Colonna’s Boxing Gym in Chicago, there are certain faces I consistently see. One of them is Light Heavyweight Ivan “Flaco” Gonzalez.
Flaco is always putting in the work, smacking bags, smacking mitts, sparring, skipping rope, sweating, banging… All this while also serving his country in the National Guard AND attending college.
Now, he is ready to make his anticipated debut in front of a large hometown crown along with many of his teammates. Black Wednesday will be special for Gonzalez.
Gonzalez makes his first professional ring appearance across the ring from Indianapolis’ Brandon Johnson (1-1) and heavily supported by his team that includes Mike “Hollywood” Jimenez, fellow Light Heavyweight Shawndell Winters, and Heavyweight Nick Mazurek.
With recent Illinois Hall of Fame inductees / championship trainers Sam Colonna and Rita Figueroa in his corner and Illinois Hall of Fame inductee Bobby Hitz as his promoter, Flaco should shine come Wednesday and beyond.
