MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA (December 11, 2017) – Saturday evening could not be any more Golden at the Copper Box Arena in London, United Kingdom.
Osseo, MN native Caleb “Golden” Truax defied the odds and scored the upset Majority Decision IBF Championship victory over James “Chunky” DeGale (23-2-1, 14 KOs) at his own UK Homecoming Party.
As a 41:1 underdog, Truax stuck to a well-scripted gameplan and pressed the action throughout the bout. The constant pressure overwhelmed DeGale in round five, keeping the champ on the back foot where Truax pounded away with stifling right and rocking uppercuts.
That Firth Round set the pace for the rest of the 12 Rounds of Championship action, as Truax kept pressuring DeGale backwards. So often, Truax was strategic in keeping DeGale backpedalling to unload with point gathering rights and jaw crunching uppercuts.
After 12 Rounds, Official Scores read 114-114, 115-112, 116-112 for your NEW IBF SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD… CALEB “GOLDEN” TRUAX!
Truax becomes the second boxer from Minnesota to become World Champion, following St. Paul’s Will Grigsby whom also held an IBF Championship in the Light Flyweight Division
