It took a little longer than Bantamweight Joshua Greer, Jr. (12-1-1 5 KOs) of Chicago was expecting to send his opponent, James Smith (11-1, 6 KOs) of Detroit “Night Night”, but he stayed true to his mission.

Greer was running on all gears on Friday night, on the opening bout of ShoBox: The Next Generation at the MGM Grand Detroit.

Chicago’s The Broke Team (TBT) Bantamweight flat out ran the tables from round 1 through the end in the 6th Round, with his speed and precision accuracy. Smith was unable to mount anything neutralizing Greer’s superior all-around skills of snapping the jabs, utilizing the slip-hook, all while evading danger with quick defense footwork.

A crushing right hand to Smith’s chin sent him “Night Night” at the 2:06 mark of the 6th Round of the scheduled 8-Rounder.

Joshua Greer Jr Quotes:

“I guess he blinked. That was the problem.”

“He caught me with some good shots, but I had a good training camp. I could fight through anything.”

“I told everyone when I got here I didn’t have that pillow for no reason. I said don’t blink and I wasn’t playing. I knew I was going to get him.”

“He surprised me because I thought I would get him inside three rounds.”

“I knew what I came to do. I’m excited but I’m not shocked. My team knew what would happen and they had confidence in me. I knew it was only a matter of time.”

“The pillow is just my trademark. It’s nothing personal. You have to stand out somehow. That’s just what I do. Nothing personal to him.”

Greer has been making a huge name for himself recently, having his hand raised in victory in his last nine bouts and earning vicious KOs in three of his last four matches.

A fight or two and Greer could be in line for a major title shot.

The Broke Team officially has a stable of Prospect turned Contenders with Greer joining the Contender ranks with Eddie Ramirez and Adrian Granados. Nate Gallimore is right there as well with Prospect Status.

All praise to George Hernandez for his tutelage with these young warriors!

Let us all NOT forget their lost brother… RIP Ed “Bad Boy” Brown.
